Rise of Terrorism

In August 2021, a terrorist organization (according to the United Nations), the Taliban, took over control of Afghanistan. Three years later, another terrorist organization, " Hayat Tahrir Al Sham (HTS)", has captured several locations in Syria and is walking towards Damascus. Given the situation, it is very likely that HTS will capture Damascus soon unless Russia and Iran do not strongly intervene like they did several years ago. The last castle before Damascus is Homs city, which can be Kaliningrad of Syria. If Homs falls into the hands of HTS, then Damascus will fall, too. Therefore, either the HTS will swiftly seize control of Homs, just as they did with Aleppo and Hams, or a bloody conflict will ensue, causing significant harm to the local population.

There are people, politicians, governments, journalists and etc, who are celebrating that HTS is taking over Syria. We have witnessed similar developments in Iraq, Libya, and Afghanistan, which have now become havens for criminal and terrorist groups. The same situation is expected to occur in Syria as well. HTS is already announcing that they will announce the Sharia regime in Syria as soon as they take over. This is normal, given that HTS includes radical Islamist persons in its structure. We have seen the same thing in Afghanistan.

Furthermore, as soon as HTS take over Homs, there will be a large migration from Syria to neighbouring countries. There are millions of Shia people living in Syria. These people will not feel safe under the HTS regime and may want to move out of Syria. Are Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, and Turkey ready to host additional millions of refugees? Of course, they are not ready. Then, what will happen to those people?

Those who are thousands of miles away from the Middle East find it easy to discuss and make decisions that will affect millions of people living in the region. Because, for them , it is a kind of game, and they don't feel any responsibility if children are killed, people are beheaded, or women are raped. But we should never forget that terrorism is a kind of boomerang. It will come back and hit your face one day.

The most concerning aspect is that a terrorist group is taking control of a country while the UN Security Council remains oblivious. Some of its members even support HTS directly. We haven't seen any coordination and joint action of UN Security Members to save the world from terrorism for many years. They are mainly worried about their own interests rather than global threats. It is time to restructure the UN Security Council and replace it with a more efficient one or increase the number of permanent members. Ideally, countries that are located in the heart of the problems should also be part of the decision mechanism of UN Security Council. Today, the problem is in the Middle East, but all the UN Security Council Members are very far from the region and have no similarities to the countries based in the Middle East (in terms of language, religion, and culture). So, how can we expect USA othe USA,or China or Russia, or France to understand the dynamics of the things happening in Syria today?

Our thoughts are with the people of Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq, and Syria, who are experiencing ongoing humanitarian tragedies while the entire world and the UN Security Council are merely observing.
